Irish War Cry showed some good race in between, but couldn’t keep up the momentum until the end and lost to the winner. Classic Empire didn’t have enough space to threaten any other horse. This was the second Ky Derby victory for the trainer Todd Pletcher. He got the first one with Super Savor in 2010. It was also the second win for jockey John Velazquez in the Run for the Roses. Earlier, he was victorious with the Animal Kingdom in 2011.
