Preseason and Postseason

  • There should be a female/minority offensive assistant as staff.
  • A new rule called the Rooney Rule has been introduced to include women of all races and ethnic backgrounds.

Apart from that, some changes were also noticed in the normal rules. Like, in the postseason, both teams will be given one possession during overtime, regardless of any touchdown. 

Also, the receiving team will have a maximum number of nine players in the set-up zone during kickoffs.

International Series: This year, the NFL will likely host various games in other countries. For example, three games are scheduled to be held in London. These matches will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley Stadium. 

Besides London, viewers may witness a match in Germany at Munich’s Allianz Arena. The NFL will return to Mexico with a face-off between San Francisco and Arizona at Estadio Azteca stadium. 

Thanksgiving and Christmas: NFL will follow its tradition and schedule three games on Thanksgiving day with afternoon doubleheaders and primetime. On Christmas, the league will, for the first team, organize three matches with an afternoon doubleheader and Sunday Night Football game. There will also be a primetime game on Christmas Eve.

  • There is a new name update for the Washington Football Team. The team was renamed Washington Commanders, and they will play with the same name this season.
  • The Philadelphia team’s uniform has been updated, and now they feature a new wordmark. Their uniform has been updated after 16 years (last designed in 1996).
  • New Orleans and Philadelphia are set to introduce black helmets. Washingtons has come up with a new alternative set of black helmets. They are the first-ever team in the league to start secondary helmets.
  • New England will return to their red-colored uniforms with the white helmet logo design of 1961.
