Holi is popularly known as the festival of colors and marks the victory of good over evil. HolikaDahan is done a day before Holi (Dulhendi). The Hindu Mythology states that the term ‘Holi’ has been derived from the name ‘Holika’, who was the evil sister of demon king Hiranyakashyap. It is also said that on this day, Lord Krishna had killed demoness Pootna. (share: happy holi images.)
Holika Dahan (Choti Holi) Muhurat, Time, Date, Puja Vidhi
Getting some powers from God, Hiranyakashyap started believing himself as the God. He wanted everyone to worship him only. However, it was unfortunate for him that his son Prahlad used to worship Vishnu. After trying many ways to get rid of him, the demon king finally called his sister to do the job. She had the blessing that she would not burn by the fire. (share: Happy Holi Images.)
So, she thought to utilize the plan. She entered the fire while keeping Prahlad on her lap. But, Lord Vishnu saved him and Holika got burnt. Since then, the HD event is being celebrated on the eve of the main festival.
