Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2 Review: The beginning scene is quite tense. It opens on a beach where two children are playing in the sand. Zombies are washing up on shore, running towards the kids, the to-be meals for the zombies. (read: Vinyl Season 1 Episode 10 review.)

Just then, the view widens and we learn that the kids are protected by a fence. Children are playing carelessly, and the zombies can’t get to them. We later learn that the children were so fearless because they had already seen people around them turn into zombies killing.

Last episode’s encounter with pirates leads our lead group to an island where they can hide under the radars. They find lights flashing from a house and decide to investigate while Salazar stays with the Strand. The group stumbles upon a family of survivors.

George, his wife, and their three kids—the two young children we glimpsed earlier in the episode, and an older teenage boy. The family seems nice, but something seems off about them. Father is a survivor kind, proud to have his own safe house, away from the world while the wife is paranoid and unhappy.

Later, it is revealed that the mother wants to send her two young children away on a boat. She thinks that they have no hope on this island and hence, trying to give them a chance at survival. I find this a little foolish on the mother’s part, as the kids actually have a chance on the island with all the safety equipment and measures.

We later learn that the family is taking some pills to maintain their composure which Nick thinks that are poisonous. At this point, I agree with the mother. But this does not change the fact that the mother is indeed, foolish. She wants to abduct her children and send them on a boat, away from a loving father. She could do all this with mutual consent.

This series has a more capability of shocking you than “The Walking Dead”. In the latter half of the episode, the little girl dies due to those poison pills, and her mother falls over her weeping. The scene becomes even more horrifying when the girl bites her mom.

Travis and Madison get ready to abscond with the boy, but they are stopped by Seth, his elder brother. Just then, their turned mother comes towards them to kill and eat them. Seth kills her mother.

Sure, the episode ended with horror mixed with sadness.
