‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Review: Marvel left everyone surprised when they released the first trailer of “Captain America: Civil War” on “Jimmy Kimmel: Live!” on 25th November instead of the speculated Christmas release along with the new Star Wars movie. (see: Few Things Missed in Captain America Trailer.)
After what seemed like years of buildup, we’ve finally got our first peek at the start of Marvel’s Phase 3 and the follow up to the wildly popular “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. The trailer made a few interesting revelations and left every Marvel fan in awe and frenzy. Clearly, no one beats Marvel at keeping their audience’s pulse racing.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Review
The trailer picks up from where it left in “Ant Man” post-credits scene. Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Sam Wilson (Falcon) have Bucky Barnes’s (Winter Soldier) mechanical arm caught up in a vice. Bucky has regained his memory and it looks like he is a suspect in a major attack on a UN division.
The German police come looking for Bucky but Steve and Bucky fend them off together. We then see Captain America and General Ross in an Avengers Facility. General Ross criticizes the Avengers over the destruction they have caused and how some people view them as vigilantes. Then we see this document.
This document looks like the equivalent of the Superhero registration Act and could be the main reason for rift between various Marvel characters. Next are shots of Bucky on the run. Captain America is not backing down in helping him; and things aren’t looking great for him.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer ReviewThen enters Iron Man. This is where things get really interesting. Initial tension between Captain and Iron Man is visible. There’s a jump cut to where Captain and Falcon are surrounded by armed men and it seems like they’re confiscating anything Avenger-related from Captain and his crew. Next, we see Captain and Bucky suiting up followed by a lot of action scenes involving Falcon and Captain America. Finally, we get a glimpse of the two teams.
They seem to be preparing for a fight on an airport. We also get a look at Black Panther who does not seem to be on Captain’s side. This scene is followed by a chase sequence and shots of explosion on the airport and Captain America breaking into a building.
Then comes this.
All it took was three words to bring every man to tears.
You’d have to be dead inside not to feel excited and jittery at the same time on the prospect of Iron Man and Captain America fighting each other; and clearly, it’s going to get brutal. The trailer ends with Iron Man getting pummeled by Captain America and Bucky. He looks seriously outnumbered.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer ReviewThis looks the superhero genre at its best: when the character drama is tied up wholesale with the action. Things are going to get pretty brutal, pretty quickly. Emotionally as well as physically.
Excited? Everyone is.
Captain America: Civil War releases in theatres May 6, 2016.
